Who we are- Sunny Path Counseling
Sunny Path is a special place because we are a team of mental health specialists that focus solely on serving the child, adolescent, and family populations. That means all of our therapists have received specialized training specifically tailored for working with children and families, so they understand child emotional development and are trained in ways to make traditional therapy more fun and engaging and tailored to your child’s needs.
We want to work with parents who want to support their child in doing well. We give parents the resources and support they need to help their children. The content in our Parents’ Corner Blog will help you understand what your child is trying to tell you behind the behaviors and learn therapeutic techniques to try at home. It’s also a great way to keep the therapeutic progress going at home!

How It Works
1. Get To Know Us
Free Phone Consultation
Give us a call and schedule your free phone consultation to let us know what your needs are. This is a great chance for you to get a feel for us, too! Choose counseling services in Johnson City, Bristol, or online from anywhere in Tennessee!
2. Schedule First Session
60 Minute Intake Session
At the intake session, you’ll meet your child’s therapist and get to tell them about the issues your child is facing. You’ll also let us know about any concerning behaviors you’re seeing in your child. You and the therapist will establish the direction for treatment.
3. Individual or Family Therapy Sessions
60-90 Minute Sessions
60-90 minute weekly sessions will be conducted. Sessions could be individual, with child and parent, or parent-only couples sessions depending on the type of therapy that was agreed upon at the Intake session. It is ideal to start therapy weekly to build rapport and establish treatment goals.
4. Parent Consultations
Optional Parent Check-Ins
Parent consultations with younger children are typically conducted every 4th or 5th session. You’ll complete a weekly progress form before each session. This is a way for the therapist and parent to stay on the same page regarding the child’s therapeutic progress. A parent check in session is always available upon request.*
*Any consultation lasting more than 20 mins will be billed at a full session rate.
5. Completion of Therapy
Once the therapeutic goals have been achieved, and the child (or client) is better able to regulate emotions, termination will begin. Because termination is essentially a separation from therapist and child, termination should be worked towards and not abrupt. Your therapist will establish goals and begin discussing termination early on in treatment.
