“Enter into children’s play and you will find the place where their minds, hearts, and souls meet.”
– Virginia Axline

Kids under 5

Parents and Kids 0-5 Who:

  • have been through a traumatic event
  • have witnessed a traumatic event
  • experienced a death in the family
  • want to strengthen their bond

For kids under 5, we use a model of therapy called Child Parent Psychotherapy. A central goal is to support and strengthen the caregiver-child relationship as a vehicle for restoring and protecting the child’s mental health.

Child-Parent Psychotherapy begins with an assessment phase of 4-5 sessions.  Then, at least 7  sessions will be conducted with both the child and caregiver.

Over the course of treatment, we help guide you and your child to create a joint narrative of the trauma and identify and address traumatic triggers that cause dysregulated behaviors.

Ages 3-12

Kids 3-12 Who:

  • are having a hard time adjusting to change
  • have experienced trauma or abuse
  • experienced a death in the family
  • are having problematic behaviors at school or home

For kids 3-12 we use an evidence-based model called Play Therapy.  We believe the most effective way to work with kids is by using the child’s language: play!

Over the course of treatment, we will be conducting 50 minute weekly individual sessions with your child and periodic parent consultations. You will also gain access to the Sunny Path Parents’ Corner where you’ll find parenting tips, kids’ mental health tips, and therapeutic activities to try at home.

Kids and Teens who:

  • are experiencing anger, depression, or anxiety
  • are being affected by a change
  • are grieving
  • are experiencing low self-esteem

We can help your child or teen feel more like themselves again. We use creative, fun interventions with older kids such as painting, clay, sand, games, and more. Therapy can be both fun and informative!

Over the course of treatment, we will be conducting 50 minute weekly individual sessions with your teen. In order to respect the privacy of an older teen, parent sessions with teens occur when both the teen and parent agree to a family session. You will also gain access to the Sunny Path Parents’ Corner where you’ll find information on how to support your teen while he/she attends therapy.

College Students

Young adults 18-22 Who:

  • are having a hard time adjusting to change
  • have experienced relationship or peer issues
  • missing home or feeling lonely
  • are unsure of which direction to go

For young adults in college, we use a blend of therapeutic models such as art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and EMDR.  We believe the most effective way to work with college students is by  helping the student adjust, learn healthy ways to cope, and navigate this difficult period of change.

Over the course of treatment, we will be conducting weekly or bi-weekly 45-50 minute individual sessions with you.

LET'S GET STARTED!

First, be sure to sign up for your free 15 minute phone consultation so we can meet and be sure we are a good fit for you and your child. Then, we will work with you during a 60 minute intake session to tailor a treatment plan to meet your child’s needs. We want to be sure your child receives the right services, and if for some reason we aren’t the best fit for your child, we will help refer you to someone who can help. Once we have a treatment plan with mutually agreed upon goals, we will set up weekly sessions lasting 45-50 minutes each. Every fourth session or so, we will meet individually with you, the parent, to track treatment progress and any progress or concerns you’ve seen at home. We know parents play an important role in the treatment of a child, and sometimes it takes a change in the structure of the home. We want to keep parents informed, and we will give you access to therapeutic tips and tools you can use at home with your child.
